PLAYABLE RACES
This is a quick guide on all of the playable races of Aparecium. Keep in mind, many of these will cost galleons to be able to create. For more info on that, CLICK HERE.HUMANS
Muggle: Non-magic folk. They possess no magical ability and no knowledge of the wizarding world. They are born into non-magical families so their ancestors also possess no magical ability as well. Muggles were long detested by many wizards, especially Purebloods. In 2062 they are more accepted by many wizarding folk, but there are still those that are of the more "traditional" belief that Muggles are "lesser than them."
Squib: Born into wizarding families, Squibs are non-magical persons with knowledge and awareness of the wizarding world but they possess no magical ability. They were looked down upon just as much as Muggles by many witches and wizards of Pureblood.-These days, it is not as rare an occurrence for a family to produce a Squib. With more and more Halfbloods in the world, the amount of Squibs born rose. They have knowledge of the wizarding world as their families are magical.
Wizard: A witch or wizard is a human who possesses magical ability at birth.
- Muggle-born: A wizard that comes from a non-magical family is considered to be a 'Muggle-born.' They are typically the only ones within their family that show any sign of magic (aside from any other siblings that may also have the magical gene.) Due to their coming from a non-magical family, Muggle-borns often faced many prejudices from Pureblood wizards who believed that Muggle-borns should not be allowed to practice magic or live within wizarding society at all. Though thanks to three out of the four Founders of Hogwarts, they are still permitted to learn within school walls and practice magic. There are more Muggle-born wizards than ever and the majority of the wizarding population has issue, though the prejudice still exists among some.
- Half-blood: A wizard that can trace their lineage and find Muggle or Muggle-born ancestry is a Half-blood. These could include one Pure or Half-blood parent or grandparent and one Muggle parent or grandparent as well as Muggle-born. These wizards did not face as many prejudices from Pureblood wizards though many Purebloods believed that even Half-bloods should not be able to practice magic. A majority of the wizarding world in 2062 is Half-blooded.
- Pureblood: A wizarding family that has no known Muggle or Muggle ancestors are Purebloods. There were many Purebloods that considered themselves to be above other wizards of lesser blood, much like royalty. Many Pureblood families deliberately erased Squibs and those who married Muggle-borns or Half-bloods from their family trees. They also have resulted to marrying within their own families in order to keep their bloodlines pure. This unfortunately caused increased mental instability, violent tendencies, and other health problems due to the ancestral inbreeding. These days, Purebloods are the minority and are rare.
Aparecium allows all but Purebloods of these to be played. Purebloods cannot be original characters and will need staff approval before acceptance.VAMPIRES
Full: Full vampires are bitten by another vampire. They have a thirst for blood and a strong aversion to garlic. They are very sensitive to sunlight but do not turn to dust if they are exposed. To be bitten and turned into a full vampire, one must already be a wizard. If a Muggle is bitten, they will likely die if they are not outright killed during the vampire's feeding. They tend to run in small social circles and try not to inter mingle too much with wizards. Full vampires can live long lives, some living up to 200 years old. But they are no different that wizards who have also reached very old ages. Contrary to popular belief, vampires in the wizarding world don't live extremely long, immortal lives. They are mortal, just undead. These vampires do appear young up to a certain age, though they may just look more pale and gaunt than other wizards.
Half: Individuals born of vampire ancestry are only half or part vampire. They do not have a strong thirst for blood and they are not sensitive to sunlight, though some do inherit the vampire paleness and small fangs in some cases. In society, half vampires are able to hide their lineage more easily than full vampires so it is easy for many of them to better blend into society. Half or part vampires age just like a normal wizard, though they may just look a little younger than they actually are.
The general wizarding public is a little more accepting of vampires in 2062 than they were 60 years ago. Sometime before 2000, the Society for the Tolerance of Vampires was founded in London. They have campaigned for the welfare of vampires for many, many years. They have also set up small blood banks where individuals may choose to donate blood for vampires to feed, if they so choose. It is still difficult for full vampires to find jobs in education or public offices due to their race, and the Ministry has done little in moving to change that fact; many within the walls of the Ministry (and even out,) who are hesitant due to the belief that vampires are still dangerous.WEREWOLVES
Werewolves are beings that go through a gruesome and horrible transformation during the full moon that changes them into a deadly wolf. A werewolf can only be bitten by another werewolf and it is not something that can be inherited. During their transformation, they cannot remember who they are or anything about themselves and would kill anyone close to them regardless of relationship if given the opportunity. There is no cure for lycanthropy, though Wolfsbane allows a person to keep their human mind while changed. However it is incredibly expensive to purchase and to brew for oneself. Muggles typically do not survive being bitten by a werewolf and there is no cure.
In the 1990s, the anti-werewolf legislation was passed - proving to many that the prejudice toward werewolves was very prevalent. It was repealed by Kingsley Shacklebolt in 2000 and Remus Lupin, a known werewolf, was the first and only werewolf to ever be awarded the Order of Merlin, First Class for his effort in the Second Wizarding War. However, despite this fact, it was still a long and difficult road for werewolves to be even remotely accepted more by even the best wizarding families. There were still many that couldn't help but fear them. To this day, it remains rather difficult for werewolves to get steady jobs in education and public offices. Though more and more people have become more accepting of them as a whole.GHOSTS
Ghosts are fleshless spirits that are either afraid to pass over to the after life or they have some strong connection to the location(s) they haunt that are bounding them still to the physical world. They can pass through objects and create disturbances though they do not have much of a physical influence aside from causing temperature drops whenever they are near. Muggles cannot be ghosts after death, and most witches and wizards are wise to not choose to become a ghost.
The Ministry of Magic does have more jurisdiction over ghosts than many people realize, as they monitor the activities of certain ghosts to make sure they are not causing disturbances as well as revealing themselves in any way to Muggles.CENTAURS
Centaurs are creatures that have the head, torso, and arms of a human joined to a horse's body. They are not half-breeds and are an individual species of their own. Despite their intelligence and natural talent in healing, divination, and astronomy, the Ministry classifies them as Beasts as centaurs do not like being grouped under the Being classification with Hags and Vampires. Centaurs reside in forests away from humans and they have a great dislike for more modern technologies. They are very territorial of their lands and forests. They generally distrust all of wizardkind but do not believe in harming children. They are very gifted in Divination and Archery. Centaurs are born this way, and there has not been any recording of a Centaur breeding with a human.
Some few years after the Second Wizarding War, more Centaurs began to choose to trickle more into wizardkind's society. Firenze was a known Hogwarts professor, there was actually a Divination bookkeeper who opened a shop in Diagon Alley for many years as well. It is generally up to the Centaur themself whether or not they choose to join humans or stay with their own kind. Though due to their appearance, it is still jarring for many wizards to see them outside of the Forbidden Forest. While the majority of Centaurs still choose not to intermingle with wizardkind, some do; and they must face the still prevalent prejudices people have toward their race.MERPEOPLE
Merpeople are half-human and half-fish creatures though they are not half-breeds. There are three sub-species, and their intelligence compared to that of humans is unknown. They do however speak their own Mermish language and many are known to produce music. They also have been known to domesticate other magical creatures such as Grindylows. They also are quite good at making jewelry and weapons. Their relationship with humans is rocky and most look down upon them due to their half-human appearance. Native to Scotland, Selkies are less beautiful than Merpeople who reside in warmer waters such as Sirens. They have gray skin and yellow hair and eyes. They also have prominent, pointy teeth. A colony of Selkies resides in the Black Lake on the grounds of Hogwarts. Like centaurs, merpeople were offered the Being classification but refused due to vampires and hags also sharing this classification and still considered dark beings by merpeople, they fall under the Beast division even still to this day. They can breathe above water for some time, but they cannot stray far from their body of water.
In 2010, a Chief of Merpeople in Lochland, Scotland revealed that merpeople have been able to understand and communicate with humans for years. They just chose rather to not to. Upon this revelation, more and more people began to approach waters to talk to merpeople willingly, and there became a trend fascination with them in the late 2010s. They are now regarded much in the same vein as centaurs; they just cannot leave their homes.HAGS
Hags are ugly, old, savage looking creatures, only female, with warts and four toes on each foot. They are believed to feast on the flesh of children and raw livers, though it is unknown if this is true or a vicious rumor. They are magical, though their skills are more rudimentary and they do not use wands. They are, however, known to be quite skilled with potion making and have been known to transform themselves into beautiful women using potions. Not much is known about them, as they have been cast out of wizarding society due to the rumors of them feasting on children.
Hags are rather rare, and if they exist among wizards it is very unlikely that one would advertise that they are a hag because of the implications and rumors behind the race. Because not much is known about them and has never exactly been discovered in depth, they are a group of people that probably face the most prejudice. The rumors of their child eating also does not help. It is easy for them to get jobs if only because they can disguise their looks easily by potion to hide their true nature.
